Hartman’s Solution

Results of the poll on Dr. Hartman’s Desensitizer taken at the Mid-Winter Meeting of the Chicago Dental Society.Qouting from The Bulletin of The Chicago dental Society.

“It is unfortunate that instead of giving the number of cases (which was asked for), many saw fit to put down percentages, with the result that your committee in tabulating the ballots had to take an arbitrary figure which it felt would be fair one, inasmuch as the solution had been in use for a short time. The figure ten was taken and the percentages under each heading were figured from this. Therefore, we feel, that in presenting the total number of cases reported, the figures are, if anything, too low, but, regardless of this fact, the percentages remain the same”

6. Remarks: These were many and varied. There were more remarks made which were uncomplimentary than were made which extolled the solution. Strange as it may seem, those who made their own solutions reported the best results. The results of the students who balloted, presented about the same results as the practitioners. In general, the remarks referred to the instability of the solution, and many were fearful of the ultimate effect on the pulps of the teeth. The majority of the remarks, whether the operator had used the solution successfully or not, condemned the publicity given, and may felt that the profession had been imposed upon. A number questioned whether or not this formula was really new. Some felt that it was advertising Columbia University at the expense of our profession. Many were open-minded and planned to continue trying for good results. Many were very skeptical.
