TEACHING PEOPLE HOW TO LIVE

Governments, civic organizations and philanthropists all over the world are trying to give people happiness and health by giving them enough to eat and enough to wear. That is not enough. They must know how to live. We now know that many of the ills of humanity as well as defects of the teeth can be prevented. The difficult task is to get a health program carried out regularly and early in life.
We also know that it is hopeless to try to combat the ills of humanity by corrective means alone. We must have education and prevention, and the most satisfying task of any man or woman’s life is to take part in this movement.
Knowing how to live does not mean just knowledge of food and drink but to moral, physical and spiritual side must all be developed. “Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it”, is as true today as it was two thousand years ago. Children are our riches and upon their training for good or ill depends the whole order of their father’s house.
Thanks to agencies such as Child Health, Child Welfare, Child Education Organizations, Tuberculosis Associations, Medical and Dental Societies, and Parent-Teacher Associations, children’s welfare is now receiving worthy attention and consideration.
Nutrition and Dental Health Magazine has always endeavored to promote health ideas along with and interest of the dental and medical profession. this is our main reason for existence and we are grateful for the help of men both professions who are working with us.
In this issue we call attention, through pictures and words, to the two beautiful, effective and well done health films, “The Road to Health and Happiness” and “The Life of a Healthy Child” which were originated in child and adult health. They were then approved by various professional and lay groups and are now used to spread the gospel of good health and correct living by schools, health groups, medical and dental societies all over the nation and in several foreign countries. Many private dentists are helping their community and themselves by showing them to community and service clubs and parent-teacher groups.
The photography and final arrangements were done by Dr. David Bennett Hill of Salem, Oregon, and the films are now for sale from his office only at a very reasonable price. They can be rented for a nominal fee from the Public Relations Department of the American Dental Association.

“THE LIFE OF A HEALTHY CHILD.” Illustrates healthful activities of a normal school child. Habits of cleanliness, correct diet, carefree play, visits to dentist and physician are emphasized. Excellent for parent-teacher groups or child audiences.
THE NATIONAL TUBERCULOSIS ASSOCIATION, Health Education Service, W. S. Doppler, Ph. D. “The picture is a whole lot better than many health movies I have seen. You did a remarkable job considering that you had no access to the resources of Hollywood with its star actors, million dollar sets and high priced camera men. I like the picture.”
